BBQ with Altitude!

Come join us in appreciation of all things BBQ!

On September 17, amateur competitors from around the Front Range will be grilling and smoking up a storm! If you think you have what it takes to hold your own against them or you just want to enjoy some delicious BBQ, this event is for you!

By purchasing an Attendee Ticket, you'll be able to taste a sample of all the BBQ provided by our contestants. We'll also have drinks, sides, and desserts for you to enjoy alongside the main dishes. A handful of carnival games, lawn games, and other campsite events will be available while you're there as well.

Event Details

Cost: $5/person entry fee, family max $25 (children 3 and under are free)

The Backyard BBQ Competition is a fundraiser for Camp Eden. All proceeds go directly to the General Fund for the camp.

Our campsite is a family-friendly place. As such we as there be no alcohol, pets, or smoking/vaping during our event. Those who bring/use these items on the campsite will be asked to leave.

Judging

Official Judging:
  • Camp Eden designates three judges as the Official judges.
  • Official judges will be provided samples of each contestants food anonymously.
  • Official judges will make their decisions based on objective standards.

People's Choice:
  • Attendees have the chance to vote for the BBQ they think is best.
  • People's Choice Voting Tickets cost $1 and can be purchased at the Event Registration table. You can purchase as many Voting Tickets as you like.
  • Tickets should be deposited in the jar at the booth of the contestant you think is best.
  • Tickets will be collected and tallied at 1:00 PM. The contestant with the most tickets in each category (brisket, pork, miscellaneous) will be the winner.

Competition Rules

  1. Contestants must pre-register; no walk-ups will be accepted for contest judgment.
  2. Contestants must sign-in at registration upon arrival. Day of BBQ drop-off: 11:00 – 11:25 AM. Those who cook overnight at Camp Eden must arrive at Camp Eden by 7:00 PM on Friday, September 16 and be ready to serve by 11:25 AM on Saturday, September 17
  3. Contestants may enter as many dishes as they wish, but will pay $25 for each dish. Dishes must fall into one of three categories: Brisket, Pork, or Miscellaneous (i.e. ribs, chicken, tofu, etc.).
  4. Each Contestant will be provided a booth with a serving table, a parking space, and enough room to set up a smoker, grill, or other cooking necessities. Canopies, tents, and cooking necessities will not be provided, but should be provided by contestants.
  5. Electricity will not be provided (generators are not allowed, either).
  6. Contestants must prepare enough BBQ of each dish entered for 100 people to sample.
  7. All ingredients are OK to use, no restrictions. If you are using known, common allergens (i.e. gluten, peanuts, etc.), please let a staff member know so Camp Eden can provide labels to be posted at your station.
  8. Eating utensils such as plates, forks, and napkins will be provided.
  9. Contestants can provide their own sauce, if they wish, but sauce will not be included in judging.
  10. Each contestant will be able to prepare the BBQ sample serving for judging. Runners will receive the plate and serve it to the judges.
  11. Contestants will be kept anonymous to the judges. No signage, handouts, recipe cards are to be displayed or provided to any of the judges.
  12. Contestants are responsible for the clean-up of their station
  13. Event staff will dispose of left over items after the close of the event
